Impossible Driver's License Renewal
Date Paid:
3-4-2013 08:13:26 | City: Abuja Municipal
Date Reported: 2013-04-14 03:23:18 | Department: Transport

Office/Company: VEHICLE INSPECTION OFFICE DRIVER AND VEHICLE LICENSING ADMINISTRATION (VIO-DVLA)
Transaction: Drivers Licence
Bribe Type: Personal
Detail: The process for the renewal of a driver's license is so tedious and slow that even if one does not want to compromise and pay bribes, after going to the VIO office for 2 days without achieving ones goal, one will consider compromising in order to move on to the next step of the process. The assessment by the VIO officers is so subjective and one is left at their mercy. Despite having driven for 20 years, the questions that were being asked a man ahead of me were significantly challenging and there was no way I could have answered them.

He didn't have enough money so he paid N5000 but the later called and said they couldn't submit unless he paid the remaining money which he did. He didn't hear anything from them after a while so he went to the Civil Service office, directly to the Director's Secretary and he discovered from her that nobody there collected any money or anything.

Corrupt lastma officials
Date Paid:
11-4-2013 13:52:35 | City: Ifako/Ijaye
Date Reported: 2013-04-12 09:05:19 | Department: State Run Agencies

Office/Company: LAGOS STATE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (LASTMA)
Transaction: Traffic Offence
Bribe Type: Personal
Detail: Lastma officers have started extorting keke marwa drivers in Gbagada just as the police in the area were recently reported and have stopped their own extortion! Last night around 8.30, one of the lastma people named Yusuf stopped my friend and said he will arrest him because he was carrying 4 passengers. This is not an offence but because the man was threatening to lock him up and seize his keke, my friend had to bribe him with N600 out of the N800 in his pocket and even after this he still delayed my friend till past 10 pm when it was now illegal to be driving keke at that time. This kind of behavior is not fair and the lastma should sanction their officers
