Detail: I do not beat traffic lights as a patriotic Nigerian. Unfortunately today as i tried to manoeuvre the traffic at Finance to turn left towards the road leading to the mosque, another driver manoeuvred to make a u-turn from my right side and blocked me. As a result I was stuck after the light turned red and the police at the traffic light accosted me. I tried to explain to them what happened but they insisted I had committed a traffic offence and needed to go to the mobile court for an assessment and to have my tyres deflated. I appealed to them and they asked me to go but asked me to give the breakfast moni so they can let me go. I had only N1000 notes and gave them one as I was late to work and didnt want to go anywhere to have my tyres deflated. Since intentions dont count I was wrong and paid egunje.

Detail: Has anyone noticed the spate at which the Nigeria Police tow peoples' cars - without minding whether you parked properly or not - and expect you to bail the car with cash? I parked my car in a marked corner of the road opposite GTBank in central area. By the time I came out from the bank, my car was missing. After several enquiries from people around, I was told to go to the parking lot behind eagle square. On getting there I found out the Nigeria Police towed my car, and even deflated both front tires. After much exchange of hot words and abuses, I had to bail my car with NGN3,000 (plus additional NGN400 to pump my tires). Their initial demand was NGN10,000. This is an evil way to rob citizens of their hard-earned money, by people who are supposed to save you. The number of one of the policeman is 07030805610 (Inspector Abdullahi).

Detail: Police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has dismissed two traffic wardens attached to Wuse Police Division, for allegedly collecting N15,000 as bribe from a traffic offender. The Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of the unit, Abayomi Shogunle gave the names of the suspects as Musa Muktari with force number 394120 GDI and Shuaibu Suleman, 10627 GDII who arrested a motorist at Wuse Market on May 29, accusing him of jumping traffic light. The wardens were said to have delayed the motorist insisting he must pay some money before he would be freed. According to the report, even when the motorist pleaded that he does not have any money on him, the wardens still held him. The traffic wardens reportedly mounted pressure and followed the motorist to an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, where he withdrew N15,000 from his account and gave same to the traffic wardens. However, as they were alighting from the motorist’s vehicle, one of them forgot his mobile telephone.

Detail: I had been coming back 'tomorrow' for close to one month that I'd almost lost my job. I take permission from work everyday to get my Driver's licence not until when I got frustrated and complained. One of the officials called me aside and told me he was going to help me but with #2000. I hesitated but thought of the stress, time, energy and money I'd been wasting made me compromise. Surprisingly after the #2000 egunje, I entered straight into the office and met with others who have also done the same thing I did. I was done within 5 minutes and came out to see the naive ones that were lied to about the System being down sweating under the scotching sun. I'm not castigating anyone right now or being judgmental but it is pathetic if we continue this way. Some of us don't want to get involved but we've got no choice. The issue of corruption is emanating from those who were supposed to abolish it!

Detail: I went to the the office to renew my passport because there was no option to renew online. Shortly after announcing my intention at the gate, one of the guards gave me a name of one Mr. Eze in the Research Unit (Visa Unit). I did not immediately go to Mr. Eze. I went to the passport office and some of the officers advised that I find an officer who will help renew my passport because if I do it myself, it will take weeks to get. While I was at the passport office and waiting with the crowd there, officers were actually collecting passports from clients in the crowd and going in to process them, abandoning the legal process. Through the back windows of the passport office, transaction was also ongoing. So I called Mr. Eze. He hurriedly met me up and asked that I pay him 40k for the job. We bargained and at the end he accepted 20k. All this while, no Immigration officer agreed to tell me how much was the official price. The information was also not on their website. I paid the 20k and he quickly processed my file, and we drove to the passport office in Gwagwalada, in the outskirts of Abuja. There, the situation was worse and very chaotic. he managed peddled his influence and got my passport renewed in 3 hours.
