Resisted By: Me | Department: Finance
Office/Company: NIGERIAN CUSTOMS SERVICE
Transaction: Customs Duties, Levies & Imposts
Detail: I traveled to Ghana, on my way back I had bought some Kente materials of which i had with me. On getting to Nigeria, at the airport arriving with my wife, the Customs official asked what I had in my bags, I told them I had my personal effects. They directed me to a table where the officer was asking me to pay duties for what I had brought in, I refused because I have a right to buy anything from a West African country, after giving me so much trouble she called a superior officer, on seeing that I was not yielding to the intimidation, I told them that I had everything that had been said on record, of which I really did. The officer began to apologize and waved everything off. So what if I didn't know my right?

Office/Company: POWER HOLDING COMPANY OF NIGERIA
Transaction: Requesting Electricity/Gas/Water Services
Detail: I need to get the new prepaid meter from PHCN, when I applied to the area office here in Magodo, they asked me to clear all the outstanding bill of the old analog meter which I have done. But the trouble and time it is taking to get the prepaid meter is becoming worrisome, they have even told me that the government has stopped issuing meters, I don't know if that is true or they are just making it hard to make me bribe them.

Police are just going around arresting anybody
Date Reported:
2013-04-15 03:51:46 | City: Oshodi-Isolo
Resisted By: Friend | Department: Police Formation and Command
Office/Company: POLICE FORMATIONS AND COMMAND
Transaction: Arrest/Remanding in Custody
Detail: Because of a clash between the police and area boys in that Isolo/under bridge area, the police have been going around picking up people at random and arresting them. My sister was running an errand when she too was arrested and taken to the police post at Isolo. When I called her and found out what had happened, I went to the station and made enquiries and found out that they were charging those that were detained N4000 before they released anyone. I asked to see the DPO whom I knew but one of the officers on duty told me he was unavailable and when I asked him why they were indiscriminately arresting people he said that it wasn't the police who were in charge but some plain clothes men who were using the station for their operations. I eventually was able to secure the release of my sister but I am deeply unhappy with what is going on because this happened 2 months ago and its still going on.
